Hello Mouser, Goodbye Mice: How To Choose The Right Cat For The Job

One of the easiest ways to get mice out of your home is to get a good mouser cat. However, you can't just go out and get any cat; a mouser cat has certain personality traits that make it the right cat for the job. When you're looking for a mouser, you want to take the following into consideration:

Go for a kitten 4 months or older that comes from a productive mouser momma. There is no way to really know whether or not a kitten is going to grow up and make a good mouser. However, when you get one that's had 4 months to learn from its mouser momma, your chances are much better of getting a good mouser.

If you choose to get an adult cat, you want to make sure you get one that's already a mouser. An adult cat will already have a proven track record, or it just isn't interested in being a mouser. You want to ask the previous owner about the cat's abilities. You can also tell a mouser adult by their behavior; they will stalk moving objects and attack them with force, as well as be very alert and always on the prowl.

Get a popular mouser breed. Some breeds make better mousers than others. A few examples of breeds that do well as mousers include Manx, Maine Coon and American short hair breeds. Some breeds are a bit too relaxed to normally make good mousers, these include Persians and Ragdolls.

Get a cat that's fixed, or have it fixed yourself. Not only should you get your cat fixed to prevent adding to the overpopulation of cats, but it will also offer other benefits. A fixed mouser will stay around the house more, where you need its services.

Make sure you're prepared for having a cat in the house. Getting a cat is a commitment, and you want to be sure you aren't going the wrong route when it comes to getting rid of the mice in and around your home. Be ready to have a four legged addition to your home that needs food, fresh water and a clean litter box.

Once you get a good mouser, you should see your home become mouse free in a short amount of time. If you aren't able to find a productive mouser, then you can call out a pest control company like ASE Pest & Weed Supplies to come take care of your rodent problem.
