How To Maintain Bamboo Fencing

Bamboo fencing is one of the best ways to secure your property. It provides durable fencing and adds a unique look to your property. However, bamboo fencing will need special care in order to continue looking good year after year. Here are some tips you can use to maintain your bamboo fencing and keep it looking great for a long time.

What should you do once your bamboo fencing is installed?

Once your fence has been installed, the first thing you should do is clean it and seal it. You can make the cleaning solution yourself by mixing together bleach and water. Add three parts of water to one part of bleach then put it into a spray bottle. You should have a hose or power washer ready, a nylon bristle brush, a piece of cloth, a bamboo sealant that contains fungicide and sun protection on hand. Here is the method you should follow for cleaning and sealing the fence:

  1. Spray the cleaning solution all over the bamboo.
  2. Let it soak into the bamboo for at least fifteen minutes.
  3. You should then scrub the surface of the bamboo with the nylon bristle brush.
  4. Wipe any excess residue off the bamboo with a cloth.
  5. Use your hose or power washer to rinse off the bamboo fencing.
  6. Let the bamboo fencing dry for two days.
  7. Apply sealant to the bamboo fence making sure to follow all the manufacturer's guidelines.

How often should you clean and seal bamboo fencing?

Once the fence has been installed for twelve months, you should clean and seal it again. Afterwards, you should clean and seal your bamboo fencing every two or three years. Be sure to perform regular maintenance on the fence by removing any foliage that builds up on the fence. Trim trees that hang over the fence regularly to prevent foliage from rotting on the fence, since this can compromise the structural integrity of the bamboo.

Can a weathered bamboo fence be restored?

Weathered bamboo fencing can be fixed. Bear in mind that If you live in a climate that is very humid, your bamboo fencing is likely to become weathered more quickly. However, a professional fencing contractor should be able to fix any faults in your bamboo fencing quickly and effectively.

Taking care of your bamboo fencing as soon as it is installed and doing regular maintenance will ensure that you keep your fencing looking new for a very long time.
